HolyWater sanctified by a priest or bishop for the purpose of Baptism or the blessing of persons, places or things. It serves as a reminder rite of initiation into the church.
The Holy Water used in this print came from Knock, a well known religious village in County Mayo, Ireland. Its notability is derived from the Knock Shrine, an approved Catholic shrine and place of pilgrimage where the faithful believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and Saint John the Evangelist appeared on 21 August 1879.
